Vespertine Ecological Ltd. was founded by Nicole Besler in 2021 to provide wildlife surveys, ecotoxicological assessments, and data analysis (bioacoustic and quantitative modelling). Our mission is to use multi-disciplinary and science-based approaches to address environmental knowledge gaps, particularly those involving cryptic wildlife.
The company is based in Kimberley, BC, but we work on projects of all sizes throughout western Canada, delivering comprehensive environmental evaluations that support informed decision-making. We welcome all consulting, collaborative, and educational opportunities!
Owner | Wildlife Biologist
Nicole has been working as a wildlife biologist since 2013, specializing in bat biology, Species at Risk, and environmental toxicology. She has consulted for industry, government, and First Nations and has been involved with wildlife research on four continents. Her first radio-telemetry experience was not with bats, but with leopard in South Africa!
Nicole is interested in using quantitative modelling to understand how environmental stressors influence wildlife health. Currently she is researching the effects of environmental contaminants on bat health (genotoxicity, immune function, hormones) to better understand the impacts of pesticide use and wildfire smoke.
Outside of work Nicole enjoys mountain life, gardening, and working with animals.
