Bats may become grounded or end up in strange places for a variety of reasons. Most commonly they're juvenile bats still trying to master flight and navigation that become lost or weak. Other times they may be sick bats, including from white-nose syndrome (a fungal disease that causes mass mortality in bats). It is important to report sick or dead bats to your provincial bat program.
